Wednesday 27 September

Southern Currents welcomes you to Melbourne with our opening event at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), situated in the iconic Federation Square.
You will have the chance to greet old friends, meet new ones and enjoy the fine catering while taking in images in the Memory Grid and (re)visiting TV50 in the screen gallery, a celebration of 50 years of Australian television.

Built in 1929, the magnificent heritage listed Plaza Ballroom is unlike anywhere else in Melbourne and offers the ultimate venue for our Conference dinner. Situated beneath the world famous Regent Theatre on Collins Street, the Plaza Ballroom brings together a wonderful experience with unmatched history, grandeur and ambience. Enjoy dinner whilst listening to our guest speaker, and once dinner is over, dance the night away with our DJ.

Three well known trainers in legal information and research will present the following workshops:

Moys Classification – Jacqueline Elliott of CAVAL Training

Wednesday 27 September, 9.30 am – 4.30 pm
Melbourne, Cliftons - Level 1, 440 Collins Street

A practical one day workshop designed for cataloguers and other library staff who wish to know more about the Moys Classification scheme. Presented by Jacqueline Elliott, formerly Court Librarian at the High Court of Australia, the workshop provides an expert overview of the scheme with particular emphasis on number building and the application of tables. Ms Elliott was a corresponding member of the editorial board for the third and fourth editions of the Moys Classification and continues to coordinate Moys queries and changes in Australia.

How to Train Legal Personnel in Legal Research - Natalie Wieland of Bliss Consulting

Bliss Consulting provides legal research training using electronic products. The training is co-ordinated by Natalie Wieland. Natalie was a practising solicitor for two years, initially in commercial law and then in family and criminal law. Natalie continues to work in a voluntary capacity at Port Melbourne legal advisory service.

Whilst practising law Natalie undertook a Graduate Program in Management Information Systems. Upon completion of the degree Natalie commenced training in legal research on the Internet and CD Roms, initially with Computer Law Services and then Butterworths , for a period of three years.

Natalie is now providing consulting services for Bliss Consulting.
